The Vacheron Constantin Reference 4072 is a vintage chronograph watch that holds a special place in the world of horology. Produced from 1938 to the late 1960's, it embodies the elegant and refined design principles that Vacheron Constantin is renowned for. The watch features a round case with timeless and understated aesthetics. Even though these pieces were at the time appreciated for their utility, they are today regarded for their impeccable design and their perfect balance between their chic and sport spirits.
The Reference 4072 is particularly celebrated for its exquisite classical two-register layout. This particular example has a most unusual and extremely attractive big eyes configurations with its two oversized subsidiary dials. Their size forced Vacheron Constantin not to apply any indexes at 2, 4, 7 and 11. Such a configuration is exceptional and, to the best of our knowledge, no other similar layout has appeared in recent years on the international market.
While the 4072 was predominantly produced in yellow gold, this example is crafted in red gold, as confirmed in the extract from the archives. This warm gold colour enhances its rarity as well as stunning presence on the wrist.
Powered by beautifully finished manual-winding movements, these watches are not only historically significant but also highly coveted by collectors for their rarity and their quality demonstrating the brand's rich heritage in crafting the finest timepieces.
This piece is being offered on the behalf of a private gentleman after having been fully restored by Vacheron Constantin in 2021.
