Introduced in 1963, the Rolex Daytona reference 6239 was designed primarily for professional race car drivers, quickly becoming a favorite among enthusiasts. However, despite its initial purpose, the 6239 also soon found its way into a military-oriented role.

The model was chosen for its optimal readability as it featured contrasting subsidiary dials and a tachymeter scale on the bezel instead of the outer part of the dial.

This particular model was produced for the Fuerza Aérea del Perú (FAP), the Peruvian Air Force, as part of a special commission likely intended as gifts or awards for high-ranking officials and pilots. These rare editions feature an engraving on the case back reading 'Fuerza Aérea del Perú', marking them as military-issued timepieces.

Furthermore, and as often for Rolex watches delivered for a special and military purposes, the three last digits of the serial number are repeated on the inside case back. This distinction significantly enhances their rarity and appeal among collectors, offering a unique opportunity to own a piece of both horological and military history.
