The reference 3514 was introduced around 1964. Its production period only lasted for 7 years and the model last appeared in the general catalog in 1971.
Its classical size (33.8mm), compared to the ref. 3445 (35mm), led collectors to affectionately refer to it as the 'small mono-date'.
The 3514 was predominantly crafted in yellow gold and also existed platinum as well as in pink and white gold, such as the present lot. It is one of only 15 pieces identified on the market, making it extremely rare and desirable. Furthermore, as the 3514G was available with different dials, less than a handful are known with the Breguet numerals, such as this lot.
The reference 3514 is powered by the celebrated automatic calibre 27-460 M, 'M' standing for mono-date. It is only the second watch from the Patek Philippe bearing this movement.
The two-piece waterproof case was crafted by Antoine Gerlach, as confirmed by the casemaker symbol on the inside case back: a key with the number 4 inside it.
The dial of the present 3514 was made by Stern Frères and is an extremely rare example of a white gold 3514 with Breguet numerals, as most of this limited production was delivered with standard baton or Roman indexes. The dial also has the typical outer track pearling that has been preserved in remarkable condition, further increasing the collectible appeal of this rare timepiece.
