Description

Decorated at the front with a unique engraved pink tourmaline for 46.66 carats, modelled as a lion's head and framed into a brilliant-cut diamond border to a flexible 'gas pipe' band, signed Bulgari, Italian mark and maker's mark, length approximately 360mm, gross weight 268 grams, 1980.

Tubogas design fluorished in 1937 thanks to the Universal Exhibition held in Paris, where arts and technology defined the new modern life and the latest creation in fashion, jewelry and fine watch-making. Tubogas, which had inspired jewelers all over the world such as Van Cleef & Arpels became the most desirable icon piece after World War II powered by the aura of Roman jeweler Bulgari that transformed the original tube, made of articulated bands used to transport pressurized gas, into a comfortable and innovative jewellery creations further enhanced with gems and his famous Roman coins.
