Description

The body reeded on a diagonal, the cover applied with a gunmetal anchor interlaced with the diamond-set Imperial crowned cypher for Grand Duke Alexei Alexandrovich (1850-1908), with an oval cabochon sapphire thumb-piece, with its original orange tinder cord, struck to the interior and the tinder cord loop with work master's initials and Fabergé in Cyrillic, 56 standard.


(Scanalata e decorata con un'ancora in diamanti taglio a cuscino ed a rosa, intrecciata con l'iniziale imperiale del Granduca Alessio Aleksandrovič (1850-1908), fermezza decorata con un cabochon ovale in zaffiro, con il suo cordino cordino arancione, saldato all'interno, l'anello del cordino con le iniziali del maestro e Fabergé in cirillico, standard 56.)

Grand Duke Alexei was the forth son of Emperor Alexander II and the uncle of Nicholas II. The intertwined anchor in his cypher reflects the fact that he was General Admiral and Commander-in-chief of the Russian naval forces between 1883-1905.
