Folding woodcut frontispiece of "Massacre of Baldwin's Family," partially handcolored and with letterpress key at bottom, woodcut vignette portrait of Baldwin on title-page; browned, horizontal tears at inner margins into text (not affecting legibility), margins frayed. Stab-sewn in original salmon wrappers; stained, frayed, chipped. First edition. Likely sensationalist fiction, although Howes states the Narrative is "[p]erhaps based on some actual incident of border horror in early Kentucky." (Ayer 18; Howes B63; Sabin 2922)
