the centres printed and painted in iron-red and gilt with the Prussian eagle, its breast gilt with the FR monogram as borne by King Frederick the Great, within a crowned rococo shield, the spiral moulded border with painted iron-red bouquets, variously dated between 1891-1913 in blue enamel, sceptre marks in underglaze-blue, printed orb and KPM marks in iron-red, one with printed iron-red oval enclosing 1763-1913 and FR monogram mark, printed WR monogram with Prussian Royal crown above for Emperor Wilhelm II in blue, various impressed numerals, painter's marks,

The present plates formed part of an exceptionally large service commissioned for Emperor Wilhelm II (1859-1941) of Germany, which was used across his various Royal residencies. It takes inspiration from a service commissioned by Frederick the Great in 1781-83 which was decorated in the same palette of iron-red and gilt borders. The monogram of King Frederick picked out in gilt on the body of the Prussian Eagle emblem. Over 450 pieces from the service were sold in the sale at Christie's London in 2002, lots 352-365.
