The inscriptions read G.S.C. The Champion Stakes 1933 and won by Baron Empains Gracchus. Gracchus is recorded as winning another trophy, H.M The King's Cup, Alexandria, 1932, made in London 1932. "Baron Empain," created in 1907 by Leopold II of Belgium for Édouard Empain, is a title of nobility of the Kingdom of Belgium, and is passed down to the senior male by agnatic primogeniture. Gracchus is said to have been a wealthy Belgian engineer, entrepreneur, financier and industrialist, as well as an amateur Egyptologist.
