Acquired in New York, early 1990s.
This rare woven thangka is one of a group created by Chinese artisans in early 20th century Hangzhou, possibly commissioned by the Panchen Lama. Another example is preserved in the collection of the Potala Palace, illustrated in David Jackson, A History of Tibetan Painting: The Great Tibetan Painters and Their Traditions, Vienna, 1996, pl. 237.
