Alessandro Grassi Collection, Italy

Alessandro Grassi, an Italian collector, assembled a collection featuring key works from major 20th-century art movements, including Spatialism, Arte Povera, Pop art, and Transavantguardia. The collection boasts pieces by renowned artists such as Cy Twombly, Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Lucio Fontana, and Alighiero Boetti. Grassi began collecting in 1979 with a vibrant work by Sandro Chia, indicating that he acquired most works upon their debut and focused on pieces that resonated with him personally rather than their decorative or historical value.

Thanks to his discerning eye, Grassi also began collecting exceptional design pieces, such as the Camaleonda sofa by Mario Bellini, presented here.
