Lot Details

Description

with rounded hoop, the convex bezel carved in the form of a pair of Eyes of Horus with finely-engraved detail, linear and chevron ornament on the shoulders.

Diameter 2 cm.

Probably acquired by Henry Paget, 6th Marquess of Anglesey (1885-1947) in Egypt in 1915/16 or in Cairo in 1923.

The bezel of a similar ring is in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (36.514, excavated by Flinders Petrie at Amarna in 1891-1892), depicting however one eye rather than two.
