Lot Details

Description

Immaculately modelled as a jockey on horseback, the chin pierced for the pepper or salt, and the tail unscrewing to allow refilling.

12cm., 4¾in long

208gr., 6½oz

Given the precision of the detailing and high quality casting and construction of the present lot, it seems likely that it was a private and unique commission, quite probably made for the owner of the racehorse.

Possible candidates for the horse and rider are Fred Archer and Iroquois who in 1881 won the Epsom Derby and the St. Leger Stakes.
