each resting on four foliated feet set with red stones, the oval base adorned with two heads, one with a man and the other with a woman surrounded by ivy enamelled garlands, the stem of the first representing an oak near which passes an amazon dressed in the Renaissance fashion, the leaves of the tree enamelled in green, the orange carnelian cup, the second, the base also set with motifs of three small pink conch beads and pearls, the stem made of a fir tree enamelled in green, a rider slaying a Turkish soldier, recalling the defense of Vienna against the Ottomans by Jean Sobieski in 1672, the cup in brown agate

The carnelian cup (the one with an amazon's barrel) was certainly commissioned by Prince Pierre Soltykoff from a family of Russian officers (one of them was rewarded in the previous century by the Tsarina Catherine II of a important surtout in silver by François-Thomas Germain, today at the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon). An engraving kept in the Louvre in a bound album for the Empress Eugenie represents this cut with a slight difference in the base.
The second cup was probably also commissioned by Prince Soltykoff. His collection of objects from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance was dispersed in Paris in 1861.

La coupe en cornaline (celle dont le fût est une amazone) a certainement été commandée par le prince Pierre Soltykoff issu d'une famille d'officiers russes (un d'eux a été récompensé au siècle précédent par la tsarine Catherine II d'un important surtout en argent par François-Thomas Germain, aujourd'hui à la fondation Gulbenkian à Lisbonne). Une gravure conservée au musée du Louvre dans un album relié pour l'impératrice Eugénie représente cette coupe avec une légère différence dans la base.
La seconde coupe a probablement également été commandée par le prince Soltykoff. Sa collection d'objets du Moyen-Age et de la Renaissance fut dispersée à Paris en 1861.
