The verse inscribed on this boulder is recorded in Qing Gaozong yuzhi shiwen quanji [Anthology of Imperial Qianlong Poems and Texts], vol. 2, juan 22, p. 7 , and may be translated as follows:
Our caps laid down, we drive around joyful and content,
Our years grown old, we rest ours souls in the sunshine of Luoyang.
Gracefully retrace our steps along the mountain pass,
No different from back in those days looking to Huichang.
Nine elders, eight hundred and sixteen years combined,
In an instant, the smell of ink fills the banquet air.
Unfolding scrolls, I still recall the road to Dongdu,
Regretting that I never trod the lanes of Li Dao Fang.
