Compare a closely related example, illustrated in The Hans Popper Collection of Oriental Art, New York, 1973, pl. 62; one illustrated in Mayuyama, Seventy Years, vol. 1, Tokyo, 1976, pl. 270; and a tripod jar and cover, from the Tsui Museum of Art, Hong Kong, illustrated in The Tsui Museum of Art. Chinese Ceramics I. Neolithic to Liao, Hong Kong, 1993, pl. 130, and sold twice at Christie’s New York, 22nd March 1999, lot 252, and again, 25th September 2020, lot 1802.


The dating of this lot is consistent with the result of a thermoluminescence test, Oxford authentication Ltd., no. C123h75.
