"This diary was kept while the author was journeying through Northern Syria during 1911. It consists of notes jotted down whenever he had a moment to rest. As he travelled to most placed on foot and was extremely ill the greater part of the time, the consistency of writing and spelling cannot be relied upon, especially as the original manuscript was kept in pencil in a small canvas-backed notebook and was never revised. The contradictions in spelling have here been transcribed as faithfully as deciphering will allow, without any corrections whatsoever" (prefatory note).
ii. The Diary of T.E. Lawrence. New York: Doubleday Doran & Company, Inc., 1937
FIRST US EDITION, ONE OF 56 COPIES, 8vo, original printed wrappers, a fine copy
This edition was limited to just 56 copies, 50 of which were for sale to secure American copyright. A rare item. [O'Brien A195]
