A presentation binding offered by Friedrich Nausea (1496-1552) to his patron Cardinal Lorenzo Campeggi, Archbishop of Bologna and papal legate in Germany. After studying law in Pavia, Nausea was employed as secretary to Cardinal Campeggi, in which capacity he attended the Diet of Nuremberg and the Regensburg Convention, both held in 1524. He later became bishop of Vienna and sought reconciliation with Protestants.

binding: Contemporary Venetian dark brown morocco by the Mendoza Binder (165 x 112 mm), frame of blind and gilt fillets with a flower stamp at the centre of each side, gilt fleuron in corners, lettered on upper cover REVERENDISS./CARD.LAVR.CA/MP., spine with blind fillet decoration, stubs from four pairs of ties, edges gilt and gauffered, lettered "Federici Nause" in ink on tail-edge. (Ends of spine repaired, joints repaired and cracked.)
