A small format edition of Lucretius, bound for the French poet and gazetteer Gédéon Tallemant des Réaux (1619-1692).

24mo (111 x 54 mm). Roman type: 46 lines plus headline. collation: A-K8 L4: 84 leaves. Title-page with engraved allegorical border. Ruled in red throughout.


binding: Contemporary red morocco (113 x 60 mm). 3 gilt fillets around sides, inner frame of triple gilt fillets with gilt fleuron at outer angles, in centre the arms of Tallemant des Réaux, spine with 5 bands, "LVCRE|TIVS" in second compartment, other compartments richly gilt, edges of boards and turn-ins gilt, marbled endleaves and pastedowns, plain edges gilt. (Worming to lower board near head of spine).
