Description
GESNER, CONRAD. Pandectarum sive partitionum universalium Conradi Gesneri Tigurini, medici & philosophiae professoris, libri XXI. Zurich: Christoph Froschauer, 1548
First edition of Gesner's comprehensive index to his monumental bibliography (lot 1106) containing entries arranged by topic (including Rhetoric, Poetry, Grammar, Astronomy, Music, Law), and including numerous publisher's catalogues, including those of Aldo Manuzio, Sébastien Gryphe, Christian Wechel and Henri Estienne. The entries are arranged by subject and cross-referenced, and Gesner also provides details of the sources of his information.
Although the title-page states that there are 21 books, book 20 on medicine was unfinished and book 21 on theology was printed separately in 1549.

Roman and italic type, double column, 52 lines plus headline. collation: *6 a-i6 k4 l6 m8 n-o4 p6 q8 r4 s8 t6 u4 x-z6 A-G6 H4 I-Q6 R8 S-Z6 Aa-Ee6 Ff-Rr8: 381 leaves (of 382, without final blank). Woodcut printer's device on title-page, woodcut initials, a few woodcut diagrams. (Title-page slightly worn with a few small repairs, small hole and stain on h2, other occasional light damp-staining.)
