DIONYSIUS AREOPAGITA (Pseudo-).Του Μακαριου Διονυσιου του αρεοπαγιτου τα ευρισκομενα... Dionysii Areopagitae opera quae extant. In eadem Maximi Scholia. Georgii Pachymerae Paraphrasis. Michaelis Syngeli Encomium. Latine omnia mox edenda. Paris: Guillaume Moreau, 1562 (1561; February 1562)
These theological writings were attributed to a first-century Athenian but were actually composed in the late fifth and early sixth centuries; this was designed to place these texts in the early years of Christianity and therefore imbue them with authority. The text of Dionysius is here accompanied by the substantial commentaries and paraphrases of Maximus the Confessor, George Pachymeres and Michael Synkellos.
3 volumes bound in two, 8vo (161 x 105 mm). Greek type, 20 lines plus headline; commentary 29 lines. collation: ¶8 ¶¶6 A-Z8 a-l8; *6 A-Z8 a-d8 e6; π2 ¶¶6 *8 **4 Aa-Zz8 AA-BB8: 286 leaves (¶¶6 blank) and 230 leaves (e3-6 misbound in quire *) + 220 leaves (instead of 214; a duplicate of quire ¶¶6 bound within quire π). IACQVES COSNEL on lower cover, single gilt fillet border, flat spine gilt, gilt edges, stubs from two pairs of ties. (Both bindings slightly rubbed.)
