This binding is an example of the Spanish plateresque style which flourished in the later sixteenth century, along with fore-edge decoration giving the title as well as the institutional ownership, with gaps indicating where the straps would have been.

3 parts in one volume, folio (294 x 186 mm). Roman and italic type, 61 lines plus headline. collation: a-b6 ã4 e4 i4 õ4 u4 A-R6 S4 T-2H6 2I8 2K-2V6 2X-2Y8: 306 leaves (2Y8 blank). Woodcut printer's device on title page, woodcut initials. (Small tears at foot of e2, T5, 2F4, and 2O6 but no loss of text; some small ink stains throughout; light staining to pages.)


binding: Contemporary Spanish plateresque binding (304 x 207 mm), tan calf over wooden boards, tooled in black and blind, 2 concentric frames of a roll with 2 repeated medallions containing a king's and an emperor's head surrounded by foliage, leafy arabesque at corners of narrow central panel, a central circular arabesque with leafy elements, spine with with bird perched on a leafy branch, plain edges with title in large letters in ink down fore-edge, escutcheon with cross on hill flanked by stars and crown in ink at top of fore-edge, traces of 2 clasps, remains of metal shoes. (Binding slightly worn, stain on upper cover, ends of spine and corners defective, lacking both straps with slight damage around stubs, flyleaves stained.)
