The smooth ovate stone, with exceptional natural markings, represents male and female tantric energies, cf. Philip Rawson, Tantra: The Indian Cult of Ecstasy, London, 1973, pl. 9. Similar stones were traditionally found in riverbeds of the Brahmaputra Valley, compare stones with similar markings in Clark and Stadtner, A India, Portico do Norte, Santiago de Compostela, 1998, cat. nos 288, 289. The stone stands upright in the form of a lingam supported on a modern patinated brass triangular stand.
