Lot Details

Description

Gaetano Donizetti (after)

Manuscript score of the recitative and aria "Sorgesti alfine, aurora sì desiata … Rapito il cor in estasi," with the voice and keyboard parts (bass only) notated in brown ink on six two-stave systems per page, with some later pencil additions, a few corrections and deletions

6 pages, oblong 4to. 12-stave paper, modern half calf, gilt label to upper cover (“Gaetano Donizetti Sorgesti alfin Recitativo e aria”), no place or date; first leaf attached to following bifolium with translucent adhesive tape, some smudging on the first page.

The exact relationship of the present intriguing score, written in a fluent hand resembling that of Saverio Mercadante, to the 53-bar autograph fragment in the Naples Biblioteca del Conservatorio di Musica S. Pietro a Majella remains to be determined; the present score ‘completes’ that fragment (which also contains the keyboard right-hand part) with a further 90 bars of music.
