Musical Manuscript--Office of the Dead, decorated manuscript on vellum
Use of Rome, Italian, late-15th or early 16th century
ii+40+i leaves, c.320 x 245mm, collation: 1-58, COMPLETE but the outermost bifolium of quire iii reversed, two large historiated initials, the first (‘Requiem Eternam’) illustrated by a funeral service, the second ('Circumdederunt me’) illustrated by a cadaver with a halo sitting on a tomb, both on pages with full decorative borders incorporating heraldic arms (gules, a lion rampant argent, a chief or), music in square notation on four-line red staves, penwork initials throughout, bound in modern plain vellum, heavily rubbed, some repairs
