Description
Old Fitzgerald 1849 8 Year Old 90 Proof
Ullage: high shoulder, includes presentation case with glasses
A must-have for any collector of Stitzel-Weller whiskey. Old Fitzgerald was the pride and joy of Julian “Pappy” Van Winkle and the flagship label at his Stitzel-Weller Distillery. As long as he ran the company, he insisted that the whiskey be bottled at least 100 proof, one of the standards to qualify as bottled-in-bond. He stepped down in 1964 and died a year later, and by the end of the decade his son and successor, Julian Van Winkle II, was under pressure to release a lower-proof Old Fitz. His solution was the 90.4-proof Old Fitzgerald 1849, named for the founding year of W.L. Weller, one of Stitzel-Weller’s forerunners. The bottle comes in a velvet-lined wooden box, with two gold-veined shot glasses.
