A George III Silver Large Presentation Pitcher, James Young, London, 1787

James Young is best known for his centerpiece of 1786 with the arms of Fitzgibbon, created Earl of Clare 1795, based on the Paul Crespin centerpiece of 1741 in the Royal Collection. The Clare centerpiece was sold at Sotheby's London, 22 October 1970 lot 157, and resold from the Bluhdom collection at Sotheby's, New York, 13 October 2007, lot 50. 

The inscription reads: "This is to record the gallant and persevering conduct of Henry King Esqre. of Chilmark, who in the years 1818 and 1819 rode for twenty five days at the head of more than one thousand brave and Independent Horsemen to support at the Hustings the Freedom of Elections by defending the Candidate of his and their choice from the personal violence of a misguided party. Their efforts secured the Election of John Bennett Esqre. on the 4th day of August 1819 And the names of the "King and the Wiltshire Cossacks" will live for ages in the heart of all who may value the "Independence of the County of Wilts" and be more imperishable than the match on which it is is inscribed.

The underside inscription reads "John Bennett Esqr. MP to his much esteemed Friend Henry King Esqr. AD 1819".

John Benett, 1773-1852, of Pythouse Wiltshire was MP for Wiltshire 1819-1832 and for South Wiltshire 1832-1852. A descendant, Vere Fane-Benett-Stanford, assembled a famous collection of Early English spoons, sold at Sotheby's London, 6 June 1946.
