Description

From the Collection of Archduchess Margarete Sophie of Austria, Duchess of Württemberg (1870-1902)

Ruby and diamond brooch, 1890s and later

Designed as a star set with a cushion-shaped ruby, pavé-set with cushion-shaped diamonds, brooch fitting detachable, original fitted case stamped V. Mayer Söhne.

This ruby and diamond star-shaped brooch was originally set on a gold bangle accompanied by a fitted case from the Viennese jeweller V. Mayer S. Söhne. The original fitted case is offered together with this lot. The bangle was part of the estate of Archduchess Margarete Sophie of Austria, Duchess of Württemberg (1870-1902). Upon her death it was bequeathed by her husband Albrecht, Duke and Crown Prince of Württemberg (1865-1939) to their son Albrecht Eugen, Duke of Württemberg (1895-1954). The latter sold the gold bangle in 1923 and retained the ruby and diamond star converted as a brooch.
