From the Collection of Archduchess Marie Therese of Austria-Teschen, Duchess of Württemberg (1845-1927)


Natural pearl and diamond brooch, attributed to Köchert, circa 1865


Of doorknocker and meander design, set with slightly baroque oval to button-shaped natural pearls measuring approximately 8.50 - 9.10 x 8.10mm, 7.70 - 7.75 x 7.60mm, 8.20 - 8.80 x 7.40mm and 7.60 - 8.00 x 7.90mm respectively, set throughout with cushion-shaped diamonds, enhanced with rose diamonds, unsigned, central cluster detachable, one small diamond deficient.


Accompanied by SSEF report no. 131218, stating that the pearls were found to be natural, saltwater.

Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria (1793-1875) gifted this brooch as a wedding present to Archduchess Marie Therese of Austria-Teschen (1845-1927) in 1865. In 1924, it was presented as a wedding gift to Princess Nadezhda of Bulgaria (1899-1958) when she married Albrecht Eugen, Duke of Württemberg (1895-1954).
