Micromosaic, onyx and enamel brooch and a gold safety pin, late 19th century


Comprising: a brooch decorated with a micromosaic depicting a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel on onyx, within a border of scroll design embellished with white enamel; and a polished gold safety pin, fitted case.

The gold safety pin belonged to Archduchess Margarete Sophie of Austria, Duchess of Württemberg (1870-1902). In 1913 her husband Albrecht, Duke and Crown Prince of Württemberg bequeathed it to their daughter Maria Amalia, Duchess of Württemberg (1897-1923). In turn her brother Albrecht Eugen, Duke of Württemberg (1895-1954) inherited it upon her untimely death in 1923.
