Description

From the Collection of Princess Marie Louise of Bourbon-Parma, Princess Consort of Bulgaria (1870-1899)

Enamel and silver-gilt case, circa 1881

The front decorated with the enamel coat of arms of the Bourbon-Parma family, the reverse inscribed and enamelled 'A S.A.R. M.L. de B. de la part de C.F.S.B. un souvenir reconnaissant de Biarritz. 1881', maker's mark, British hallmarks for silver, fitted case.

The inscription on this case probably refers to an event during the childhood of Princess Marie Louise of Bourbon-Parma (1870-1899). Presumably it is linked to an inauguration in the French coastal town of Biarritz attended by the young princess at which a committee presented her with this case.
