Elegant mother-of-pearl and diamond fan, attributed to Köchert, circa 1900


The guards and sticks of mother-of-pearl, one guard embellished with the cipher of Archduchess Maria Immaculata of Austria-Tuscany set with circular-cut and cushion-shaped diamonds, the sticks finely pierced, the lace leaf centering on the crests of the Württemberg and Habsburg dynasties, the rivets each set with a cushion-shaped diamond, supporting a silk tassel, unsigned, fitted case stamped Köchert.

Archduchess Maria Immaculata of Austria (1878-1968) held this fan in her hand on the occasion of her wedding to Robert, Duke of Württemberg (1873-1947) celebrated on 29 October 1900. It was given to her by great-aunt and godmother Archduchess Maria Karoline of Austria-Teschen (1825- 1915), the wife of Archduke Rainer Ferdinand of Austria (1827-1913).
