[Théodose Du Moncel]

[Athènes monumentale et pittoresque. Paris: Auguste Bry, c.1845-6]

Oblong folio (419 x 597mm.), a bound volume of 17 lithographed views of Athens (some plates with 2 views), with a manuscript ink list of the 17 plates dated 1852 pasted on preliminary free endpaper, nineteenth-century red cloth-backed boards, upper cover titled "Ansichten aus Griechenland", some spotting, binding worn

Théodose Du Moncel's travels in Greece and Turkey from November 1843 to the spring of 1844 resulted in a number of publications, often with overlapping contents: De Venise a Constantinople a travers la Grèce et retour par Malte, Messine, Pizzo et Naples (c.1845); Excursion par terre d'Athenes a Nauplie (1845), and the present work (sometimes entitled Vues pittoresques des monuments d'Athenes).
