FIRST EDITION, 2 volumes, 4to (262 x 205mm.), half-title in volume 2, 2 engraved frontispieces, 2 folding maps and 88 engraved plates, many folding, 3 WATERCOLOUR DRAWINGS OF RUSSIAN COSTUME loosely inserted, contemporary half-calf, spines gilt, a few plates and map with tears at fold, some spotting and occasional offsetting


THE ATABEY COPY of an important work describing travels through Russia and the Caucasus to Persia, and returning by way of Asia Minor to Constantinople, Thrace, the Balkans, and Bucharest. Porter was an artist and diplomat. The pagination of the preliminaries in volume 2 is irregular but complete.
