A pair of Louis XVI gilt-bronze mounted porcelain pots pourris and covers, circa 1770, the porcelain Qianlong period (1735–96)

The porcelain elements of this mounted pots pourri are decorated in bright enamels of greens and reds depicting stylized foliage. This decoration with lobed, circular or fan-shaped vignettes set against a ‘powder blue’ ground emerged in the early 18^th century during the Kangxi period and offered great visual contrast.

A pot pourri with a similar mount to the base was offered Sotheby’s, London, 13 November 2020, lot 125. A pair of smaller mounted pots pourri of similar porcelain was sold at Sotheby’s, New York, 23^rd May 2012, lot 303.
