Description
A pair of Louis XVI gilt-bronze mounted porcelain pots pourris and covers, circa 1770, the porcelain Qianlong period (1735–96)
with a pinecone finial to the cover, the mounted feet joined by garlands
18.5cm. high, 16cm. wide; 7¼in., 6¼in.
The porcelain elements of this mounted pots pourri are decorated in bright enamels of greens and reds depicting stylized foliage. This decoration with lobed, circular or fan-shaped vignettes set against a ‘powder blue’ ground emerged in the early 18th century during the Kangxi period and offered great visual contrast.
A pot pourri with a similar mount to the base was offered Sotheby’s, London, 13 November 2020, lot 125. A pair of smaller mounted pots pourri of similar porcelain was sold at Sotheby’s, New York, 23rd May 2012, lot 303.
