The dish, gracefully potted with six bracket lobes resembling a blossoming flower, is extremely rare among celadons from the Yaozhou kilns in Shaanxi. Unlike the southern kilns of Longquan in Zhejiang, where floral-shaped dishes were popular in the Southern Song and Yuan dynasties, Yaozhou undecorated celadons were uncommon after the 10th century.
A hexafoil Yaozhou dish of comparable size is published in Songdai Yaozhou yaozhi / The Yaozhou Kiln Site of the Song Period, Beijing, 1998, p. 212, fig. 110:10.
