129,5 x 305,5 cm ; 51 by 120¼ in.

This large oil on canvas reprises the famous painting by August von Heckel, commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria for the great hall (Wohnzimmer) of his castle in Neuschwanstein. Very obviously inspired by Wagner’s work, the composition, wider than the original, shows Lohengrin’s arrival in Antwerp, welcomed by Elsa (Act I of the opera).
