According to a paper label underneath this table top, it originates from the Lopez (or Lopes) workshop, specialized in inlaid marble tables, established in the centre of Palermo on Corso Cassaro Morto, later renamed Corso Vittorio Emmanuele. Active from the early 1800s and throughout the 19th century, members of the workshop include Salvatore, Filippo, and Francesco Lopes. Table tops by Salvatore Lopes were sold at Sotheby's London, 17 January 2019, lot 141 and at Christie's London, 17 September 2013, lot 364. A table top by Philippo Lopes was sold at Christie's London, 11 March 2001, lot 116.
