Basketball legend Kobe Bryant had a profound impact on people all over the world, and in particular, the younger generation of NBA players. His legendary “Mamba Mentality,” intense training regimen, and sheer will to succeed inspired countless players to achieve their greatest aspirations.

Joel Embiid – the 2023 NBA MVP – is no exception.

Sotheby’s is proud to present this custom made Philadelphia 76ers warm-up jersey, featuring Bryant’s name and number ‘24’ on the back, worn by Joel Embiid prior to the 76ers 115-104 win over the Golden State Warriors on January 28, 2020 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Embiid wore the jersey in warmups to honor Bryant, who tragically passed away a couple days prior.

Embiid went on to record a team-high 24 points and 10 rebounds in Philadelphia’s victory.

Though Bryant spent his entire NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers, he was a native of Philadelphia and was beloved in the city. In his final game in Philadelphia in 2015, the home crowd chanted “MVP!” and “Kobe! Kobe!” out of respect and adoration for the basketball legend.

Going Deeper | Joel Embiid

After being selected with the 3rd overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Joel Embiid missed his first two professional seasons due to injury. But once the 2016-2017 NBA season rolled around, Embiid quickly developed into one of the league’s most dominant players.

With seven seasons now under his belt, Embiid’s impressive list of accolades already includes six All-Star selections, three All-Defensive team nods, two scoring titles, and most recently, the 2022-2023 NBA MVP award.

The jersey has been photomatched by The MeiGray Group and is accompanied by a photomatch letter and graphic.
