Basketball Net

Circa 2014

The 2014 NBA Finals pitted LeBron James and the ‘The Big 3’ Miami Heat versus Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs. A rematch of the previous year’s classic Finals, in which the Heat prevailed in 7 games, the 2014 Finals saw Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and burgeoning superstar Kawhi Leonard look to exact their revenge.

Employing a beautiful style of basketball featuring continuous player and ball movement, the Spurs sliced up the Heat defense en route to a gentleman’s sweep after five games. Leonard earned Finals MVP honors with series averages of 17.8 points and 6.4 rebounds not to mention an admirable defensive performance against LeBron.

Sotheby’s is proud to present this basketball net, which was used during the San Antonio Spurs championship clinching Game 5 victory over the Miami Heat on June 15, 2014. Leonard scored a team-high 22 points to go along with 10 rebounds in the Spurs 104-87 win at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

The championship marked the Spurs’ 5th title in franchise history. It was also the final championship won by the historic nucleus of Duncan, Parker, Ginobili, and head coach Gregg Poppovich.
