Description
[Apollo 12]
Ocean of Storms
Large chromogenic print, 16 x 20 inches, SIGNED by Apollo 12 Commander CHARLES CONRAD in gold ink: "Charles Conrad Jr. / Apollo XII."
AN EXCEPTIONAL IMAGE FROM THE APOLLO 12 MISSION, THE SECOND AMERICAN MOON LANDING, SIGNED BY ITS MISSION COMMANDER CHARLES "PETE" CONRAD
Taken November 19, 1069, this signed photograph depicts Apollo 12 Commander Charles "Pete" Conrad unfurling the star-spangled banner in the Ocean of Storms region of the moon— marking the second time that American astronauts have walked on the lunar surface. The photograph offered in the present lot is signed by Conrad himself.
Apollo 12’s launch attracted not only millions of spectators, the spacecraft was also struck by lightning. In the first minutes of the rocket launch, the spaceship was twice struck by lightning — disabling the electrical power and the guidance. The crew and the engineers persevered, and were able complete the mission.
