This striking image of the Apollo 11 Lunar Module ascent stage, with Armstrong and Aldrin aboard, was photographed on July 21, 1969, from the CSM during rendezvous in lunar orbit. The large, dark-colored area visible in the background is Smyth's Sea, with the Earth rising above the lunar horizon.
