Adam Goldstein (DJ AM) was a ‘sneakerhead’ long before the term became mainstream. He started collecting sneakers in 1990 and amassed close to 900 pairs before his passing in 2009. His sister auctioned off each pair, one at a time. He was known for both his DJ skills and premier sneaker collection.

The Nike SB Dunk High Pro ‘Unlucky’ released in 2004 alongside the accompanying ‘Lucky’ colorway, and was limited to 1300 pairs. The design takes the classic SB Dunk High silhouette, and applies a black suede and leather upper with contrasting yellow stitching. Red accents are found on the rubber outsole, tongue tag branding, and the embroidered ‘13’ featured on the lateral forefoot.

The Nike SB Dunk made its formal debut in 2002, when Nike officially reworked the famed Dunk basketball sneaker, originally designed in the 1980s, with upgrades suited for the skateboarding community. The man behind it, former Nike executive Sandy Bodecker, is credited with building one of Nike’s most beloved subdivisions in the early 2000s with the Nike SB line.

What sets Nike SB apart from other competitive brands is the unbridled creativity, collaborators, materials and whimsical, highly thematic designs that define a generation of sneakerheads. Nike has explored hundreds of concepts — often with a sense of humor — through its Nike Dunks. From design inspiration that ranges from beer bottles, to guitar cases, to horror films, animals, arts and cities, the Dunks represent some of the most beloved and creative models for the brand.
