A Spanish courtsword, dated 1848
with slender blade formed in two stages, the upper portion of flattened-hexagonal section and the lower portion of rectangular section, the latter engraved with a running pattern of foliage and the date, gilt-brass hilt cast with a writhen design in late 18th century style, comprising boatshell guard, a pair of quillons, knuckle-guard, pommel and integral grip, in its leather scabbard with brass chape and locket, the former with a moulded button for suspension
