A group of three altar frontals (Antependium), Italian and French, 16th - 18th century


comprising of a floral brocade altar frontal panel, French, after Jean Ravel, circa 1730; an embroidered silk and metal-thread altar frontal panel, Italian or French, 1720-1730; a claret velvet altar frontal panel, applied with four Or Nué saints within applied passementerie ribbon arches, Italian, late 16th or early 17th century

each textile panel mounted on a stretcher: approximately 58cm. high, 201cm. wide; 1ft 11in., 6ft. 7in.

The claret velvet panel; ‘Spetchley Park - I. Worcestershire, The Seat of Mr. R. V. Berkeley', Country Life, 8 July 1916, p. 47, illustrated installed in the Chapel. 
These panels are all the same measurement and have been used as antependium on the same church altar. They are decorative and represent different periods in the history of church textile designs, dating from the 16th through to the 18th century.
