A Flemish repoussé-silver-mounted ebony and ebonised cabinet, probably Antwerp, mid-17th century


the upper section with a hinged lid above two panelled doors, enclosing a fitted interior with a central compartment with a door opening to reveal a floor inlaid with bone and arched niches with figural mounts, flanked by a drawer above and below and by four drawers on each side, elaborately decorated with silver mounts with infants, scrolling foliage, fruit swags and garlands, with a drawer in the frieze with an iron handle each side, on a later 19th century ebonised stand

stand: 75.5cm. high, 77.5cm. wide, 38.5cm. deep

At Torhousemuir, South West Scotland;

Acquired with the house when the estate was bought by Lt. Col. Sir Archibald Woollaston White, 4th Bt. (1877–1945);

thence by descent to his son, Sir Thomas Astley Woollaston White, 5th Bt. (1904-1996);

thence by descent to the present owner.
