Description

Ozzy Osbourne

Blizzard of Ozz. Jet Records, 1980

LP in the original record sleeve (catalogue number JETLP 234), signed by Ozzy Osbourne, Bob Daisley, Lee Kerslake, and Randy Rhoads, with the photographic portrait of the band on the rear cover (first issue), with the original printed inner sleeve; bottom sleeve seam splitting, creasing and edgewear, just a trace of ringwear, stray spots and soiling to inner sleeve.

Ozzy’s debut solo record, signed by the band. Following his firing from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to his substance abuse and refusal to rehearse new material, Ozzy set off on his own. With guitarist Randy Rhoads and bassist Bob Daisley, the three wrote most of the album in Monmouth, Wales. Once drummer Lee Kerslake joined the band, the group recorded the record at Ridge Farm Studio, one of the earliest residential recording studios in England. At the time, the band had in fact dubbed themselves “The Blizzard of Ozz,” and were expecting the album to be credited to that name, with Osbourne’s full name in smaller print (as seen on the first issue of the “Crazy Train” single). But when the record was released, Ozzy’s name took center stage, and it cemented his new band as a solo act with a backing band in their audience’s minds. The record features some of the greatest songs of his career, including “Crazy Train,” “Mr. Crowley,” and “Suicide Solution,” the latter of which attracted controversy after being linked with a suicide in October 1984. The record is frequently named one of the greatest metal records of all time.
