There is an extensive annotation by Bernd Becher in German on the reverse, here translated: 'The boy Bernd Becher, who grew up in an Eisenhütten district of Siegenland, had this factory in mind throughout his youth; he knew it from his parents' house. This may be the reason for his choice of subject when he became a painter and graphic artist and later decided to capture this industrial world with the more suitable means - the camera - instead of with brush or pencil. This is the root of his life's work and his successes. (They are far larger in the US than here) -phot. Becher'
