A female saint

oil on panel

unframed: 51 x 42 cm.; 20⅛ x 16½ in.

framed: 73 x 59 cm.; 28¾ x 23¼ in.

James Rennell Rodd, 1st Baron Rennell (1858–1941), acquired while serving as English Ambassador to Italy;

Thence by descent to his daughter Evelyn Violet Elizabeth Emmet, Baroness Emmet of Amberley (1899–1980);

Thence by descent to the previous owner (as Bernardino Zaganelli).

The female saint depicted here appears to be wearing the habit of a Dominican nun, which suggests she may be Catherine of Siena or Margaret of Hungary.
