Edward Swinburne was the younger son of Sir Edward Swinburne, 5th Bt of Capheaton, Northumberland. He was in Italy in 1792-3 and again in 1797. Along with his brother, Sir John Swinburne, 6th Bt, he was a patron of J.M.W. Turner.
