Painted wall decorations of the type seen here were extremely popular in the Netherlands during the 18th century, and most of the leading artists of the period were active in designing or executing these works. It is, though, relatively rare to see a drawing showing how the wall-paintings would have looked in situ. The designs have been associated with the names of both Pieter Barbiers and Hendrik Meijer; the link with the latter artist seems the closer.
